DESIGNING machinery in Australia has been a major advantage of Queensland-based Achilles Machinery and allowed it to quickly and accurately follow market trends and construction demands.

The business has been founded on the smaller end of the earthmoving equipment sector with its mini excavators.

Now, owner Danny Wang is stepping up with plans for larger machinery to suit the bigger construction end of the game.

“We have eight models now along with skid-steer loaders and dumpers,” he said.

“Now after customer demand from a busy construction industry, we have been involved in designing and specifying larger equipment for the Australian market.

“These will be arriving later this year.”

Mr Wang said the new models would target construction operators as well as the commercial earthmoving and mining sectors.

“At the moment our main products are small excavators that have proven to be very popular with customers including farmers and builders,” he said.

“This is because the products, which are made in China, are highly specified to be reliable and long lasting, along with an affordable price tag.

“We deal around Australia so the quality of the product must be of a high standard so it doesn’t let the operator down.

“We also put a lot of effort into our after-sales service and will help the customer solve any possible problems.”

Mr Wang said all Achilles products have a “1,2,3-year warranty” which is a back-to-factory and replacement parts warranty for one year (or 1000 hours); an engine warranty covered by the engine supplier for two years; and a three-year structural warranty including boom and chaise.

He said that high wear components such as batteries, fans, tracks, washers and so on, have parts in stock that can be supplied quickly to the customer.

Achilles’ excavators range from 1000kg operating weight and a 0.025cu.m bucket with a 12hp Koop engine, through to one with a weight of 2750kg, a bucket capacity of 0.1cu.m and a 28.2hp Perkins engine.

The business also supplies ‘trailer packages’ that Mr Wang said was very popular with clients. These are dual-axle trailers made in Queensland of galvanised steel which are tailored to suit the Achilles excavators.

As an example, one of the smallest excavators and the specially-designed trailer can be bought as a package for less than $21,000 which means operators can immediately get on the road and to work.

Achilles can also supply a self-loading dumper with a 270-litter hopper volume, and the choice of two skid-steer loaders.

The loaders come with a 0.15cu.m bucket volume , 400kg lift and powered by a 23hp engine, or the large version with a 0.45cu.m capacity, 800kg lift and 57.7hp engine.

Achilles Machinery is in Brisbane and Melbourne.
