XCMG Mining Equipment Australia in 2021 first signalled its intention to challenge the current duopoly in the earthmoving and machinery industry by expanding its network.

The local arm of the world’s third-biggest construction equipment manufacturer opened headquarters and a 2230 square metre depot in Melbourne, as well as a spare parts centre in Karratha, Western Australia.

Specialising in the supply, distribution, and delivery of new and used mining equipment, XCMG Mining Equipment Australia is growing its dealer network to deliver a high level of pre- and after-sales service.

It has eight dealers nationwide with 15 sales and service outlets. The dealer network is supported by a growing team of 11 members, including sales, service, and support engineers.

When it first committed to expand its operations into Australia, it was estimated that the fleet delivery in 2021 would be 730 units of machinery.

The company’s reputation and the increasing demand meant that delivery figure was greatly underestimated, with XCMG’s first-quarter delivery in 2021 at 905 units across construction and mining machinery.

One of the key reasons is XCMG’s process of continuous improvement and quick turn around on implementation.

XCMG Australia’s chief operating officer and director, Roy Rossini, said the company has a direct line of communication into the manufacturing of equipment for the Australian market.

“That means, we build and change to customer demand,” he said.

If our clientele wants something included or changed, it’s not a two-year approvals process. We can turn it around for the next production run.”

Along with design changes, the other deciding factor has been the ease of securing replacement parts.

The equipment is designed so parts are as common as possible and backing that up is XCMG’s worldwide network of spare part centres.

Mr Rossini said that it can guarantee to have parts on site within 72 hours which he said “was proving a winner with new and existing customers.”

While XCMG might not be a household name just yet, they’re certainly making all the right moves to challenge common misconceptions, secure high profile clients and develop long-term relationships for the future.

It is on its way to becoming a household name outside of China. It is already the third-biggest construction machinery company in the world.

It is ranked 65th in the list of China's Top 500 Companies, 44th in the list of China's Top 100 Manufacturing Enterprises, and 2nd in the list of China's Top 100 Machinery Manufacturers.

XCMG started in 1943 as Huaxing Iron Works which led to XCMG Group being established in 1989 and having its headquarters in Xuzhou, China.

For more than 30 years it has been the No. 1 manufacturer of mining and construction equipment in China and are currently ranked third behind Cat and Komatsu.

In 2021 it became the number one supplier of cranes, a position long held by Liebherr.
